Everyone has that important day in his/her life and to many, it’s usually during their birthday. In a world where many things tend to divide, we are united by birthdays. Everyone expects it to be an awesome day, full of excitement and joy. but to Margaret Kinya, it was totally different.
The outgoing journalist, Margaret Kinya has a history of working as an information officer in the public service since 1989. At the time of her death, she was working as Laikipia county information officer seconded from the Ministry of ICT. Her friends were hoping that Margaret would crack up their ribs with her jokes during her birthday on Wednesday, November 3. She was going to turn 56, but that turned into mourning after she died in Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Reports show that she started feeling unwell on October 26. She then excused herself from office duties to seek medical attention. Her condition worsened over the next few days and she breathed her last five days later. Barely a week before she died, Kirera made this post on her Facebook page, “Pesa kidogo unanipita ni kama hunijui!! “ No one thought that would have been the last joke from her. “Rest in peace, my sister. This is your last post, laugh with the angles. Happy birthday in Heaven.” wrote Schola somi, one of the mourners.
In the family circles, office, and online platforms, if Margaret was not telling a joke, she was giving a religious quote of encouragement. Her friends described her as a hilarious industrious person whose death shocked many. She has left behind a daughter, Keziah Kagwiria who works as a communication officer at the Laikipia County Revenue Board.
May God grant her family grace to persevere this tough times.
