Livestock herders blocked up the Mai Mahiu road after a vehicle hit and killed four cows, causing a traffic jam. The speeding lorry hit and killed the cows on Friday morning, provoking the protesters to block the road. Some other cows were also injured, causing the heavy traffic snarl-up. Security officers are negotiating with the herders to open up the road. The narrow road between Mai Mahiu and Suswa has been marked for restructure which could end the traffic snarl ups.
The 40-kilometre stretch has been disposed to to costly closures over time. There have been instances where fault lines have occurred and cut off the road. KENHA said the restructure and reconstruction of the road is expected to cost Sh13 billion.Follow us in social media:
