A narrow death escape is something that one can never forget. A head-on collision in Kaloleni area has left residents in shock. A frontal collision occurred on Sunday evening leaving them alive but sustaining injuries.
The tragedy occurred along Mombasa-Kilifi Highway. It was involving a truck and matatu.9 passengers died due to the injuries. The two drivers were the sole survivors during the head-on collision. It is not immediately clear what caused the accident. Residents were trooping in search of any survivors.
Many accidents have occurred along this highway in the last few months. In his report, Kilifi Police Commander Stephen Mathu states the cause of the accident is unknown. The matatu was heading to Kaloleni when it collided with the lorry. The drivers are still receiving treatment.
In October, NTSA reports show that 2,689 people have lost their lives between January 1st and September 30th. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i also noted that most accidents occur during festivities. This accident comes few weeks after the government raised a red flag because of the high rise in accidents. The numbers in road accidents hit a high knot just when President Uhuru Kenyatta declared opening of bars and minimized curfew hours.
