Interior CS Blacklists 9 Over Terrorism.

Two suspects linked to funding Isis are among the nine whose cash and property was frozen. The list of nine individuals whose accounts and properties were ordered frozen by the Interior Ministry yesterday over links to terrorism is more like a compilation of not only Kenya’s but also the world’s most dangerous people. Although the interior security cabinet secretary mentioned through his announcement that only their properties and finances had been frozen, insiders in security circles have said that repercussions go way beyond what the public is seeing.

Most of those who have been named are already in jail while others are either missing or have pending cases in court. “We shall neither surrender to the hands of terrorism nor play into the narratives propounded by terrorists,”Dr Matiang’i said. Those whose accounts have been frozen include Waleed Ahmed Zein, Mohamed Abdi Ali alias Abu Fidaa, Halima Adan Ali & Sheikh Guyo Gorsa Boru.

It has been established that some of the businesses being targeted include an M-pesa agent known as Alasland Agency and also Climbing star which also sells mobile phones. Both of them are situated in Eastleigh. It has however not yet been known which business belongs to who but the government will prohibit all operations in those areas. As of now, the nine have already been classified as specific entities .According to the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2012, “specified entities are Level One enemies of the hence being equal to terrorist groups. When one is termed as a member of a terrorist group, it’s punishable with an imprisonment of 30 years.

The process to declare the 9 individuals as specified entities began on March 8th when Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai notified the nine of his intention to recommend them to the Interior CS they be declared as specified entities. They were given a time period which according  to the law states that ; for one to be declared a terrorist sympathizer ,they should demonstrate within seven days stating why this should not happen. Reports have it that none of the nine did so.
