What a man can do a woman can do better. This phrase is evidently portrayed by a lady who happens to be the second African-American woman and the first South Asian-American Senator in history. Kamala D. Harris was sworn in as a United States Senator for California in 2017.She serves on the Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on the Budget.
Kamala grew up in Oakland having a stroller-eye view of the Civil Rights movement. Her great inspiration has been her mother, Shyamala, an Indian-American immigrant who has been a breast cancer researcher and an activist. She has learned to stand up to the powerful & resolved to spend her life advocating for those who couldn’t defend themselves through the example of courageous leaders like Constance Baker Motley, Charles Hamilton Houston. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office after earning an undergraduate degree from Howard University & a law degree from the University of California.
