The government has confirmed the appointment of Mrs Florence Kerubo Omundi as the deputy commissioner general of prisons. Mrs Omundi, who has been holding the position in an acting capacity since July 1, was preceeded by Mr Benjamin Njoga, who retired.

Announcing her confirmation, Wycliffe Ogallo, the Commissioner General of Prisons said Mrs Omundi was conscripted in the Kenya Prisons Service in 1987 as a graduate cadet in the chief inspector rank after which she served various stations, and has been rising through the ranks.

“She has a wide global and national exposure and very well-versed in correctional management and credited for advocating for equal opportunities for the disabled, marginalised and vulnerable during her tenure as the director, Gender NGOs and Sports at the Prisons Headquarters,” said Mr Ogallo.
