Are schools safe for children??
Professor George Magoha, the CS for education, has said that schools are the safest environment for learners. These remarks come even as the covid-19 infection rate continues to rise. “We are hoping for the very best. At the right time, we shall open for the rest of the learners.” the CS said. The ministry will on Wednesday engage the president over a plan to fully reopen learning institutions. This includes those in pre-primary, Grades 1-3, class 5-7, and Form 1-3.
Schools have remained open around the world, even as countries head to the second round of lockdown. In the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a return on partial lockdown. It will be between November 5 and December 2. The Prime Minister said that the decision was reached following the advice of clinicians that schools are safe for the children.
Germany and Ireland have also allowed schools to remain open. Medical experts note that the rate of coronavirus transmission in schools is relatively low. Despite the uncertainty, experts like Amref Health Africa CEO Githinji Gitahi says reclosure of schools cannot serve as a solution. KPA chairperson Nicholas Maiyo argued that 70% of day schoolers are a threat to parents when they return home.Follow us in social media:
